WhatsApp Link Generator
Create a WhatsApp click-to-chat link for any phone number instantly. Anyone who clicks it opens WhatsApp with your number ready — no need to save a contact first. Perfect for your website's contact button, Instagram bio, email signature or business card QR code.
What is a WhatsApp click-to-chat link?
A WhatsApp click-to-chat link (also called a wa.me link) opens a WhatsApp conversation with a specific phone number when tapped — even if the number isn't saved in the user's contacts. The link format is:
https://wa.me/FULLNUMBER
Where FULLNUMBER is the country dialling code followed immediately by the local phone number, with no spaces, brackets, dashes or + sign. For example, a UK number (+44) 7700 900123 becomes https://wa.me/447700900123.
Where to put your WhatsApp link
WhatsApp links work anywhere you can paste a URL:
- Website button — a "Chat with us on WhatsApp" button on your contact or homepage. Customers reach you without leaving the site.
- Instagram & TikTok bio — the link field in your bio. Followers tap once to open WhatsApp. You can also add the link as a story sticker.
- Email signature — include a clickable "WhatsApp me" line next to your email address.
- Google Business Profile — add it as a messaging option on your business listing.
- Business cards & flyers — encode the link as a QR code and print it. Customers scan to chat instantly.
- Facebook & LinkedIn — post or message the link; it renders as a tappable URL.
How pre-filled messages work
Adding a message adds a ?text= parameter to the link:
https://wa.me/447700900123?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20to%20book%20an%20appointment
When the link is clicked, WhatsApp opens with the message already typed in the chat input. The user still needs to tap Send — nothing is sent automatically. This is perfect for capturing common enquiries: "I'd like a quote for…", "I want to book…" or "Is this product still available?".
Getting the phone number format right
The most common mistake is including an extra digit. Rules to follow:
- Remove the leading 0. UK local numbers start with 07xxx — the international version drops the 0, giving 447xxx.
- No spaces, dashes or brackets. wa.me/44 7700 900123 won't work — use wa.me/447700900123.
- No + sign. Although international format uses +44, the wa.me link uses the digits only.
This generator handles all of that automatically — just enter your country and the local number as you'd normally dial it (without the leading 0), and the correct link is built for you.

Frequently asked questions
What is a WhatsApp click-to-chat link?
A wa.me link opens a WhatsApp conversation with a specific number when clicked — even if the person hasn't saved your contact. The format is https://wa.me/FULLNUMBER, where FULLNUMBER is your international country code followed by the local number, no spaces or symbols.
Can I pre-fill a message in the link?
Yes. Fill in the optional message field and it's URL-encoded into the link. When someone clicks it, the message appears pre-typed in the chat input, ready to send (they still tap Send to confirm).
Where can I use this link?
Anywhere you can paste text or embed a hyperlink: your website's 'Chat with us' button, Instagram or TikTok bio, Facebook page, email signature, Google Business Profile, WhatsApp Business profile or a QR code on a business card or flyer.
Does the link work on desktop computers?
Yes. On desktop it opens WhatsApp Web in the browser or the WhatsApp desktop app if installed. On mobile it opens the WhatsApp app directly. Both paths work with or without a saved contact.
What happens if the recipient doesn't have WhatsApp?
If the link is clicked on a device without WhatsApp, the browser redirects to the WhatsApp website, which prompts the user to download the app. On desktop, it opens WhatsApp Web, which works without a phone app if the user is logged in.
Can I use a WhatsApp Business number?
Yes. WhatsApp Business numbers work exactly the same way with wa.me links — the format is identical. If your business number is linked to the Business app, the link opens a WhatsApp Business chat.
Is there a limit to how long the pre-filled message can be?
Technically URLs have no hard limit in modern browsers (most support at least 2,000 characters), but very long messages may look unwieldy as a link. Keep pre-filled messages concise — a greeting or product inquiry prompt works best.
